PhD projects within PRRP - Ethiopia
Within the PRRP project three Ethiopian students have started their sandwich PhD projects. Berhan Mellese Teklu will study the environmental effect of pesticides in Ethiopia and will be supervised by Prof. Negussie Retta (Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia) and Prof. Paul van den Brink (Wageningen University, The Netherlands). Beyene Negatu will focus on the effects of pesticides on human health in Ethiopia and will be supervised by Prof. Yalemtsehay Mekonnen (Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia) and Prof. Hans Kromhout (Utrecht University, The Netherlands). Lastly, Belay Tizazu will focus on pesticide governance and will be supervised by Dr. Belay Simane (Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia) and Prof. Arthur Mol (Wageningen University, The Netherlands).
The students have arrived in the Netherlands last September and will stay till the end of March 2012. During this time they will follow courses and work on their PhD proposal. Upon return to Ethiopia they will start their laboratory and field work and perform their research. It is envisaged that they will return to the Netherlands in 2015 to finish their thesis before September that year.
