Description of progress

This PhD-project has developed more or less according to the initial plan. The field work for the first phase has been concluded already (from May-November 2012). Belay will go back to the Netherlands after the field work in Ethiopia. At this moment Belay is discussing with his professors and writing the results of the field work for the scientific article which will be submitted for an international journal.

Objectives achieved, deliverables

This first phase research aims to analyse the gap between formulated state pesticide policy and its implementation and to review the actual and potential contribution from state and market actors/networks in changing in pesticides use practices.

The writing of research proposal and studying activities during the first year (2011) has been good. The PhD candidate took both MSc and PhD courses (Advanced and contemporary social theories, Ecological modernization theory, Environmental policy: analysis and evaluation, Qualitative data analysis: procedures and strategies, Participatory approaches in planning, policy and development, Scientific publishing, Project and time management, Scientific writing, Information literacy).

Presented papers both at international and national conferences related to PhD project.
